Motor Vehicle Operator/Heavy Motor Vehicle Operator, NA-05/07/08/RFT, Camp Foster
Operates buses, trucks, forklifts, and cranes to transport personnel and cargo throughout Okinawa, performing vehicle maintenance and providing customer service.

Major Duties
Operates a wide variety of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles to include buses and commercial trucks for the purpose of transporting personnel and cargo from one point to another throughout the island and over public roadways. Additionally operates various forklifts and truck mounted cranes for handling cargo, supplies and equipment. Maintains a trip & usage report. Maintains assigned vehicle in clean, neat condition; performs washing, waxing, and 1st echelon operators maintenance in accordance with established procedures; and completes operator's maintenance form with visual inspection of the assigned vehicle. Reports all required maintenance repairs and accidents to supervisor.
Assists with loading patrons, luggage and cargo. Periodically accepts fares for airport rentals and handles cash infrequently.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Operates vehicles in all types of traffic conditions on public and non-public roadways. Operates vehicles during inclement weather.
Requirements
Physical Requirements
Moderate to heavy physical effort may be required to load or secure cargo and to maneuver long and heavy vehicles, especially when backing up. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 pounds independently and objects over 45 pounds with assistance. Stands, stoops, bends, lifts and may sit in uncomfortable and tiring positions for long periods.
Basic Requirements
- Must be able to obtain a Government Driver's License up to a GVW of 4,500 kg (10,000 lbs) at a level NA-05.
- Must be 21 years of age in order to be considered for the NA-07 advanced level.
- Must be able to proceed to the target level of NA-07 upon satisfactory completion and testing to operate vehicles up to 14,400 kg (32,000 lbs) and 62 passenger buses regardless of GVW.
- Must be able to pass and maintain a Medical Examiner's Certificate for Drivers.
- Must be able to pass and maintain a Medical Examiner's Certificate for MHE & WHE.
- Must be able to accommodate flexible work schedules to include night time, weekends and holidays.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge and skills in operating vehicles with manual shift transmissions which are high, wide, long, heavy, equipped with air brakes, have limited maneuverability, or are oversized and carry large groups of people where long periods of day and night driving may be required.
- Ability to read street maps and reach unfamiliar locations as well as knowledge and skills in selecting safe, legal and alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic or other delaying conditions and must be familiar with the Japanese traffic laws.
- Knowledge to make judgments concerning various vehicle's dynamic characteristics, overhead and side clearance, turning radius, braking distance, and the distance to be maintained from other vehicles.
- Ability to safely operate and maneuver heavy vehicles in congested locations, evaluating conditions and load limits of bridges and in assessing traffic conditions and hazards locally and over long-distance routes in unfamiliar geographic areas.
- Mechanical knowledge to perform minor repairs/adjustments and operator's maintenance on assigned vehicles.
