Serves as the clinic veterinarian performing wellness appointments on privately-owned animals, treating diseases and injuries, conducting surgeries, and providing diagnostic testing.

Serves as the clinic veterinarian performing wellness appointments on a population of privately-owned animals and advising owners on proper immunizations and disease prevention.

Examine animals, treat diseases and injuries, conduct surgeries. Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, and other body fluids for examination and diagnostic testing.

Performs and interprets laboratory findings. Issues health certificates.

Perform administrative duties such as maintaining legal medical health records.

Provides direction and oversight to Animal Health Assistants with regards to veterinary nursing skills, veterinary medical standards, and animal care.

Requirements

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

  • Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).
  • Possess a valid unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine (may be a valid state license from any US state).
  • Official transcripts must be provided prior to time of hire. Unofficial college/university transcripts may be uploaded for initial qualification screening.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":

  • Possess active United States Department of Agriculture/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation.

Physical Requirement:

  • Ability to lift 45 lbs and long periods of standing, walking, restraining, kneeling, reaching and sitting, etc.
  • Must have use of fingers; Both hand and both legs are required.
  • Position requires exposure to intermittent excessive noise.

Area of Consideration

This job is open to candidates who Local commuting area is defined as Kadena/Japan and surrounding area within 50-mile radius; in addition to, you are considered eligible if one of the following applies: 1) you live outside of this area and are able to commute to work on a daily/as needed basis, 2) you are able to relocate yourself on your own expenses, or 3) you are a family member relocating to this installation. Family members do not receive preference until arrival at the overseas location.(Military Spouse Preference (MSP), Family Member Preference (FMP), and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration).

Salary Information

Salary is pro-rated based on a 40 hour work week. Hourly salary is: NF-04 $40.73ph to $41.40ph ($85,000pa to $86,400pa)

PCS Costs

Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.

Allowances and Differentials

This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. Foreign overseas allowances, post allowance, and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility. Logistical support (i.e. ID card/Command sponsorship) is not provided for this employment opportunity. Employment overseas provides a lot of additional benefits and entitlements.

Healthcare Access and Availability

If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12. If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for Early Intervention Services (EIS) will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12. Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.

Scheduling Information

Flexible/Intermittent (00 guaranteed hours per week however may be scheduled to work between 0-40 hours per week based on mission needs). Flex employees are not entitled to leave or benefits however, there is no upper limit to the number of hours a flexible employee may work (subject to overtime obligation and work scheduling requirements). Work schedule to be determined after hire.
