SATCOM Terminal Engineer
Supports day-to-day maintenance and operation of satellite communication terminals in Okinawa.
Job Responsibilities
The SATCOM O&M Support position shall support the day-to-day maintenance and operation of assigned terminals.
- Knowledge of tactical and commercial satellite communication equipment.
- Proficient in operating Satellite Modems, Redundancy Switches, associated cables, and interconnects; Up Converters, Down Converters, High Power Amplifiers (HPAs), Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), Low Noise Block (LNB); Waveguide (rigid, flex, and elliptical) joints and connections; Intermediate Frequency (IF) cables and connections; Antennas, Antenna motors, Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPA), Antenna Control Units (ACU), and related cabling and interconnects; Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) units; Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS); and Generators (if applicable).
- Skilled in technical documentation for SAR, GAR, TSR, and ASI requests.
- Experienced in using Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) such as power meters, spectrum analyzers, Firebird testers, volt meters, and similar tools.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Active, in-scope US Government issued Secret clearance (Interim Secret Clearance is acceptable).
- Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting installation, repair, troubleshooting, or maintenance of satellite communications electronic systems or equipment.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating in a tactical satellite environment, including operation and maintenance of antenna controllers, SSPA, LNA/LNB, up/down converters, fiber optic, coax, Ethernet cables, FDMA and TDMA modems, and Modem Hub operations.
- Experience and proficiency with commercial and military satellite TDMA/FDMA modems required.
- Required certifications include Network+ and Security+.
- Able to travel to support mission up to 10%.
Education
- An Associate's degree in Electronics preferred, OR a certification plus 7 total years of recent specialized experience, OR 11 total years of recent specialized experience.
